System Requirements
Check if your Mac is compatible with Seiz before downloading.
Minimum Requirements#
These are the bare minimum specs your Mac needs to run Seiz. The app will work, but you might notice slower performance with very large folders (10,000+ files).
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later — Seiz uses modern macOS technologies that aren't available on older versions. To check your macOS version, click the Apple menu (top-left corner) → "About This Mac".
- Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) or Intel Mac — Seiz runs natively on both. If your Mac was made after 2015, you're good.
- 4 GB RAM — Most Macs made after 2015 have at least 8 GB, so this is unlikely to be an issue.
- 50 MB disk space — Seiz is a lightweight app. For reference, that's smaller than a single iPhone photo.
How to check your Mac's specs
Recommended Specs#
For the best experience — especially when working with large directories, multiple panes, and AI features — we recommend:
- macOS 15 Sequoia — Seiz takes advantage of the latest macOS features for better performance and visual polish.
- Apple Silicon (M1 or later) — Apple Silicon Macs are significantly faster than Intel Macs for everything Seiz does, especially AI features that use the built-in Neural Engine chip.
- 8 GB RAM or more — Gives Seiz plenty of room to handle large directories and multiple panes without slowing down.
AI Feature Requirements#
Seiz's AI features (smart rename, semantic search, summaries, OCR) run entirely on your Mac. They're optional and disabled by default. To use them, you'll need:
- Ollama installed — a free open-source local model runner (ollama.com). Required for Smart Rename and Summaries. Apple Silicon Macs run it noticeably faster than Intel.
- macOS 15 Sequoia or later — required specifically for Semantic Search and Smart File Grouping. Other AI features work on macOS 14 too.
- 8 GB RAM — recommended. The on-device embedding model used for semantic search uses 200–300 MB when active and frees the memory after 5 minutes of inactivity.
- No cloud, no telemetry — all AI processing stays on your Mac. Your file contents and search queries never leave the device.
Not sure which chip you have?
Which Mac Models Are Supported?#
If your Mac can run macOS 14 Sonoma, it can run Seiz. Here are some examples:
- MacBook Air (2018 and later)
- MacBook Pro (2018 and later)
- iMac (2019 and later)
- Mac mini (2018 and later)
- Mac Studio (all models)
- Mac Pro (2019 and later)
If your Mac is not in this list, it may be too old to run macOS 14 Sonoma. Check Apple menu → "About This Mac" to see your current macOS version.
